Raise your hand if you have an Ikea problem. If your hand is down, you’re lying. We recently took a trip to the promise land and it got me thinking about the items we can’t leave without. It was interesting to me that one person just had to find tiny metal spoons for their coffee while another wasn’t leaving without a cart full of picture frames. I thought it would be fun if we shared with you our top Ikea favorites… behold!
Harlie’s Picks:
Ikea is the source of almost all of my basic décor items. The problem was not which items to include in my favorites, it was which ones I wouldn’t include. Because, honestly, I want to include them all. But I’ll try to keep this list short and sweet.
- Duck Feather Throw Pillows + Covers
This is a two in one but by far my favorite Ikea item that I brag on. Their duck feather throw pillow inserts are extremely soft and mushy. I have been slowly replacing all of my throw pillows with Ikea ones because they’re so much more comfortable and seem to last longer. Plus, once you buy the inserts you can just spend the $3-$10 (or more, if you choose) for a new cover and get a whole new look! Being someone that is always changing up their house, I truly appreciate versatility. My only complaint is that they have so many beautiful pillow covers online and my local store only has about half of them. Rude, much?
I’m only supposed to pick 3 items, but can my fur rug/throw count as honorary item #4? Talk about butt luxury!
2. Faux Plants
If you didn’t already know this one, you live in a hole. Ikea plants are the bomb.com and are basically all over my home. Every time I go I pick up 2 or 3 to add to my collection. The last time we went, I had to stop and go, “Do I really have any more places for these?” and then I laughed at myself and threw 8 in the cart.
Sadly, that last part was a joke. I had to put down the plastic parsley because I had already spent my husband-appointed Ikea budget and it was either these or the fur rug.
3. Duvet Covers
This was a hard one. My first two items came almost natural to me. Like, if you put me in an Ikea with nothing but my natural reflexes I’d sprint through the checkout with a handful of plants, pillows, and meatballs. The other two items featured on this list are things I grab every trip, while this is a one time, long term purchase: their duvet covers. I can’t speak for their duvets or comforters, but I purchased this duvet cover probably about a year ago and it is definitely the best comforter I’ve ever owned. My husband is hot natured and just hates blankets (I’ve had him tested – they say he’s human but he’s definitely not right). For some reason, though, the Ikea duvet cover makes him go, “Share the covers!” Obviously, I’m not buying new duvets every time I visit Ikea. But you can’t beat the price and quality, so next time I’m in the market for a new comforter you can bet Ikea is my go-to spot!
So if this last picture didn’t sum it up for you, nothing will. Can you spy all of my Ikea favorites? And no – it was not staged, I’m just that obsessed with Ikea. SOS.
Linda’s Picks:
1. Tiny Spoons
Ok, please don’t blame me – I can’t help it! I’m the “tiny spoon” addict. They are so cute and for $4.99, you can make your morning coffee stirring such a joy! I mean, come on, who can’t smile when you pick up a tiny spoon? (News flash – $4.99 gets you 6 tiny coffee spoons!)
“The best part of waking up, is Folgers and a tiny spoon in your cup!” Isn’t that the way it goes?
2. Glass Carafe with Cork Stopper
A light bulb went off in my head last Christmas, when I saw these on sale! I love giving homemade gifts, so when I saw the sale, I bought a dozen of them! Filled them with homemade Wassail (a secret cider recipe passed down by my Momma) and decorated them with ribbon and a personalized gift tag. I may just love these as much as Harlie loves the plastic plants. I try to stay away from drinking juice, but the carafes just make me want to fill my fridge with a whole array of different juices, just because it would look so pretty. I regretfully refrain though. Until…. Christmas rolls around again, and I have an excuse to go buy some more. One piece of wisdom if you are going to load up on a dozen glass carafes – make sure it’s on the same day you’re buying duck feather pillows, so you don’t have to walk around with the big yellow Ikea tote bag clanging glassware with every step. (not like I know how that is or anything…haha!)
